The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has arrived in Edo State as part of his final preparations for the upcoming Edo State Governorship election, scheduled for September 21, 2024. The visit is aimed at assessing the state’s readiness and ensuring all necessary measures are in place for a smooth electoral process.
According to Njenje Media News, Prof. Yakubu will be in the state for four days, during which he will participate in a series of engagements with stakeholders and election officials. His visit highlights INEC’s commitment to delivering a credible and transparent election in Edo State.
The Chairman and his entourage were warmly received by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Edo State, Dr. Anugbum Onuaha, along with the Administrative Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Ogbodu, Esq, and other senior officials from Edo State INEC.
Among those accompanying Prof. Yakubu were key members of INEC’s leadership, including the supervising National Commissioner, Prof. Rhoda Gumus; National Commissioners Major General A. B Alkali (retd), Mr. Sam Olumekun, Dr. Baba Bila; the Chief Technical Adviser to the Chairman, Prof. Bolade Eyinla; Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi; Special Adviser, Prof. M. Kuna; Ag. Director of ICT, Engr. Bayode Lawrence; Dr. Ajoku G.N, Director of Health & Services; and Ag. Director of Operations, Hakeem Adigun.
The visit is expected to culminate in strategic meetings and inspections to guarantee that Edo State is fully prepared to conduct a credible election. Prof. Yakubu’s focus during this tour will be on ensuring the availability of voter materials, the readiness of election technology, and the security of polling units across the state.
This visit is part of INEC’s broader effort to maintain transparency and accountability in the lead-up to the highly anticipated election.
