The former Governor of Anambra State and PDP Chieftain, Mr Peter Obi has condemned the impeachment of the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Mahdi Gusau by lawmakers of the State house of Assembly.

Njenje Media News recalls that three hours after the seven-panel set up by the house to investigate the Deputy Governor on misconduct had submitted it’s report to the house, twenty out of the twenty-one members of the House voted in favor of the motion to impeach the number 2 man in the State.

The relationship between Gusau and Mattawalle became sour after the governor left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Deputy Governor refused to defect with the governor, opting to remain in the PDP.

Peter Obi, the Vice-Presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 polls in his reaction to the impeachment while condemning the removal, related the travails of Gusau with his when he was Anambra Governor.

He wrote on Twitter:

“The impeachment of Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed Gusau as Dep. Gov. of Zamfara has no basis in law but is predicated only on toxic politics.

“As someone who was wrongfully impeached and became the first Nigerian public officer to come back from impeachment, I can relate to this desecration of our constitutional democracy and offer my unalloyed support to him. -PO”
