In a significant demonstration of the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, today led a delegation including members of the National Assembly Committees on Works, to inspect the progress of Section 1 (Abuja-Kaduna) of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road Project. During the site visit, Senator Dave Umahi, a staunch advocate for improved road construction methodologies since his appointment, emphasized the critical role of infrastructure in Nigeria’s development. “Under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, we are fully committed to seeing this project through to completion,” Umahi stated. “Good infrastructure is the backbone of economic growth, and this road is a vital artery for our nation’s commerce and connectivity.”

The Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road Project, spanning 375.9 km, is designed to improve transportation efficiency, reduce travel time, and enhance safety for travellers between these major cities. Umahi, known for his tenure as Governor of Ebonyi State where he oversaw extensive road construction using innovative methods, has brought his expertise and vision to this national project.

During the inspection, the Minister reviewed various aspects of the construction, from the quality of materials used to the progress on different segments of the road. He interacted with the project engineers and workers, ensuring that the project adhered to the high standards set by his ministry. “The use of concrete pavement technology, which I have advocated for its durability and cost-effectiveness, is being implemented here to ensure longevity and reduce maintenance costs,” Umahi explained.

The visit also served as an opportunity for Umahi to address the challenges faced by the project team and to reaffirm the government’s support. “President Tinubu has given us the mandate to deliver quality infrastructure that will stand the test of time, and we are determined to meet that expectation,” he added.

The presence of the National Assembly members during the visit highlighted the legislative support for the initiative, with discussions focusing on funding, timelines, and the strategic importance of the project. The road, once fully operational, is expected to significantly boost economic activities, facilitate trade, and strengthen the bond between different regions of Nigeria.
