The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) will soon be inaugurated as consultations continue between the party leadership, its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The party disclosed this in a statement, saying Obi and Kwankwaso had held several meetings with the national leader and other leaders of the party as part of efforts to finalise the campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The NDC said Obi and Kwankwaso had been given the authority to nominate key officials of the PCC, including the Director-General, Deputy Director-General (North), spokesperson, deputy spokesperson, Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director.
According to the party, the nominees would be selected in consultation with the NDC leadership.
The party said its national leadership had already developed a complete organogram for the campaign since August and submitted it to Obi and Kwankwaso for their consideration.
It added that nominations had also been received from stakeholders across the country.
“The party wishes to assure the public that as soon as we receive the inputs of our Presidential Candidate and his Vice, the NDC shall proceed to announce and inaugurate the same,” the statement said.
The NDC said a campaign timetable had also been proposed since August, while arrangements for campaign funding and fundraising were being concluded.
It said funds raised would be paid into the presidential campaign account and managed jointly by officials nominated by the presidential candidate and his running mate, alongside the party’s national treasurer.
According to the party, the proposed financial arrangement was intended to ensure transparency and accountability, particularly because the NDC would be required to render accounts to the Independent National Electoral Commission in accordance with the Electoral Act.
The party explained that the inauguration, initially scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed because of Obi’s travel schedule.
The NDC also appealed to its candidates at all levels to discourage supporters and support groups from engaging in internal disputes.
“We also appeal to all our candidates at all levels to restrain their supporters and support groups to focus on the need to win elections. There are no battles to fight within the NDC. The common opponent to defeat is the ruling APC,” it said.
The party urged its candidates to concentrate on the elections, stressing that they were contesting under the NDC platform rather than as independent candidates.
“Our candidates should keep their eyes on the ball and focus on winning,” the party said.
The NDC added: “The NDC wants all our candidates at all levels to win resoundingly, especially as they are not running as independent candidates.”
Obi and Kwankwaso formally joined the NDC in May 2026 and were subsequently affirmed as the party’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 2027 election.
