NSCDC Female Officer Dies in Abuja Drill Accident

A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has died after being struck by an operational patrol vehicle during a simulation exercise in Abuja. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, according to NSCDC spokesperson Afolabi Babawale.

Footage circulating on social media showed the officer being hit as the vehicle turned. Colleagues and bystanders rushed to lift the vehicle and pull her out, while emergency responders evacuated her to a nearby medical facility. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Babawale said the NSCDC immediately activated internal procedures following the accident. “It is true we lost a personnel during the simulation exercise. Our senior officers are on their way to the residence of the deceased to pay our condolences,” he stated. He added that a detailed official statement would be issued soon to clarify circumstances and outline the measures being taken by the agency.

As of Saturday, the identity of the deceased officer had not been publicly released.

The NSCDC continues to investigate the incident while offering support to the family and colleagues affected by the loss.
