Obi Condemns Attack on Ngige’s Convoy, Calls for Urgent National Security Overhaul

Alor, Anambra State — Former presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern and solidarity with former Governor of Anambra State, Sen. Chris Ngige, following the violent attack on the senator’s convoy, which resulted in the death of an innocent woman and left a police orderly critically injured.

Obi, who was out of the country at the time of the incident, visited Ngige at his home in Alor on Sunday to personally commiserate with him and to thank God for sparing his life in what he described as a “deeply distressing” event.Image

According to Obi, the assault on the convoy is “painful and unacceptable,” adding that it highlights yet again the grave security challenges facing the nation. “This tragic and avoidable bloodshed is another reminder of the rising tide of insecurity our people confront daily,” he said.

The former Anambra governor emphasised the need for a more coordinated and effective security strategy, stressing that both government and citizens must work together to halt the spread of violence across the country. “No Nigerian should live in fear, and no one deserves to lose their life in such senseless circumstances,” Obi stated.Image

He extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the woman who was killed in the attack and offered prayers for the recovery of the injured police officer. Obi reiterated that Nigeria must recommit itself to building a nation where human life is valued and where citizens can move about safely and without fear.

“This unfortunate incident,” he said, “should energise our collective resolve to restore peace, justice and security. The sanctity of life must be upheld at all times.”

Obi’s visit comes as security experts and civil society groups renew calls for comprehensive reforms to counter the escalating insecurity affecting many parts of the country.
