The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Akinola Damilare over alleged impersonation of military personnel.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, identifying the suspect, popularly called General Don, as having been arrested around 2:00 am on November 3 at Kajola, Elega, Abeokuta.
According to the police, the arrest followed intelligence provided by a community leader and subsequent covert surveillance by operatives of the command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit.
“Items recovered from him include a military face cap, three-quarter military trousers and four photographs depicting him in military uniform,” the statement reads in part.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, reiterated the command’s commitment to combating impersonation and other criminal offences, while encouraging residents to report suspicious activities to the authorities.
“Investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged impersonation and determine whether others are connected to the case,” the command stated.
