The Igbo Pan Sociocultural group, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo has in a terse statement condemned the marginalization of the Igbo in the latest promotion of Police Officers around the country, Njenje Media News can report.

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo in a series of tweets on his Twitter page opined that the latest act of marginalization of the Igbo in the promotional exercise is provocative and would not be accepted.

The Ohanaeze President wondered why more slots were not given to the South East when it’s a known fact that all the Police Commissioners in the South-East are from the North and not many Igbo officers are in the high echelon of the Police Force.

claimed he He queried why the South East has just one new Police Commissioner with the North-West having twelve, North-East having eight, the South West having seven, the South South having five and the North Central having four, an action he claimed further widened the already existing imbalance in the Police Force.

Njenje Media News has a copy of the statement, it reads;

“In the recent promotion carried out by the PoliceNG, 37 officers were promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police. A cursory look at the list shows that the North-West has 12 new commissioners of police; North-East, eight; South-West, seven; South-South, five; North Central, four; while predictably South-East brought up the rear with just one new commissioner.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo observes that the already existing imbalance in the force exemplified in the fact that all police commissioners in the South-East come from the North and not many Igbo officers are in the high echelon of the force, should have made it imperative that more slots be given to the South-East”.
