The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Abia State Chapter, says it is untrue that it agreed with the State Government to waive outstanding entitlements and gratuities to members in the Memorandum Agreement entered by both parties prior to the payment of pension arrears by Governor Alex Otti’s administration in April.
The Union in a Communique issued at the end of their enlarged State Council meeting in Umuahia and signed by the Chairman, Chukwuemeka Irondi and State Secretary, Uma Kalu, said the council and the State Exco of the Union lacked the power to waive the gratuities of retirees and appealed to the state government to expunge such section from the Memorandum of Agreement.
