Onitsha, Anambra State –

Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s presidential candidate, has debunked rumours circulating on social media and various platforms claiming he was arrested. In a statement released today, Obi emphasized that he is currently at his residence in Onitsha, Anambra State, and not in custody.

Obi highlighted the recurring nature of these false reports, pointing out a similar incident last September when he was falsely reported to have had his home invaded by the Department of State Services (DSS) while in Rwanda. Today’s false narrative claimed he was arrested in Abuja, despite his presence in Onitsha.

“The motive of these peddlers cannot be positive,” Obi stated, urging the public to focus on the nation’s critical challenges rather than being distracted by baseless rumours. He thanked the public for their concern, support, and dedication to the vision of a better Nigeria.

This isn’t the first time political figures in Nigeria have had to address fabricated news. The spread of misinformation, particularly in the digital age, continues to be a significant issue, affecting public perception and potentially influencing political landscapes.

The Labour Party and supporters of Peter Obi have been urged to stay focused on the broader goals for Nigeria’s development, undeterred by attempts to sow confusion or discord through misinformation.

Obi concluded the message by thanking the public for the concern, support, and dedication to the cause of a better Nigeria that is POssible!!!
