A new chapter unfolds in the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide as Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu assumes the position of President-General. This development follows a turbulent period marked by the demise of previous leaders, culminating in the adoption of Nze Ozichukwu to complete Imo State’s tenure in line with established protocols.

Nze Ozichukwu will exhaust the remaining 27 days of Imo State’s four-year tenure, which ends on January 10, 2025. His emergence was formally approved at a recent Imeobi Ohanaeze meeting, where key stakeholders unanimously supported his nomination.

From Tragedy to Transition

The leadership challenges in Ohanaeze Ndigbo began with the passing of Ambassador Professor George Obiozor, CON, in 2022. To fulfill the Imo State tenure, Chief Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu was sworn in as President-General on April 30, 2023. However, his untimely demise on July 25, 2024, further compounded the challenges.

To address the leadership vacuum, the Imo State Chapter of Ohanaeze, led by Barrister C.J Ihemedu, invoked the doctrine of necessity, presenting Nze Ozichukwu as a candidate for the remaining days of the state’s tenure. His nomination was moved by Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, Chairman of the Imo Council of Elders, and seconded by Chief Simon Okeke (Ochendo).

A Man of Distinction

Nze Fidelis Ozichukwu Chukwu is renowned for his intellectual rigor, strategic leadership, and integrity. His academic achievements include degrees from Templeton College, Oxford University; Harvard University; and Galilee College in Israel. He has also earned professional recognition as a Chartered Management Consultant and a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (FIMC).

Professionally, Nze Ozichukwu has held several high-profile positions, including Managing Director of Nigeria Merchant Bank Plc and Director at Inland Bank Plc. He played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s economic reforms as a founding member of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee for the Reorganization of River Basin Development Authorities.
