The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has offered an apology for his past preaching wherein he declared that those that fail to pay tithes may not make it to heaven.

Tithe is a biblical injuction, which prescribes giving out 10 per cent of one’s earnings to the church. However, it has been largely controversial with arguments on whether it is mandatory to pay tithes or otherwise.

Daddy GO, as Adeboye is widely called, made the apology in a recent preaching where he admitted that tithing as a precondition to make heaven is not biblical.

“I am going to be apologising for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, that’s not in the Bible,” Pastor Adeboye said.

The globally acclaimed cleric, however, clarified the Bible’s position of following peace with all men and holiness as the means to making heaven.

Referencing Hebrews 12:14, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man will see the Lord.”

Adeboye, who oversees one of the largest churches in Nigeria, had come under criticisms over the previous message, which many faulted as contradictory to the teachings of the holy Bible.
