Suspected gunmen have abducted an unspecified number of students from Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, after attacking the school while candidates were sitting for the National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination on Monday.

The attackers reportedly stormed the school in the morning, disrupting the examination before taking several students away. A teacher was killed during the attack, while another sustained injuries.

The Borno State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that efforts were underway to determine the exact number of students abducted, as some candidates were still unaccounted for.

The attack has renewed concerns over the safety of schools across parts of Nigeria’s North East despite ongoing security measures aimed at protecting educational institutions.

Security operatives have since launched a search operation to rescue the missing students and restore normalcy in the affected community.
