Indian police have arrested two Nigerian women after recovering more than two kilograms of cocaine valued at about Rs 20 crore during an anti-narcotics operation at Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in New Delhi.
The suspects, identified as 43-year-old Chikanso James and 41-year-old Happiness Okoye, were apprehended on July 31 during a joint operation by the Delhi Police Railway Unit’s Special Staff and station officers.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railway) B Bharat Reddy, “Teams were deployed at vulnerable locations, including major railway stations, to intercept suspected traffickers and peddlers. During intensive patrolling at platform number 1 of Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, a police team noticed two women carrying luggage and behaving suspiciously.”
After following legal procedures under the NDPS Act, officers searched the women and recovered 11 packets of cocaine from one of the suspects.
“The seizure was a major success in the Railway Unit, disrupting an alleged interstate supply network operating between Mumbai and Delhi-NCR and preventing a substantial quantity of contraband from reaching the illegal market,” the officer said.
Police said Chikanso James later disclosed during interrogation that the cocaine had been collected from the Vikaspuri area of west Delhi. Investigators are now tracing the financial network behind the operation and examining links to a wider interstate drug syndicate.
Authorities are also investigating whether the suspects acted as couriers or were directly involved in an organised drug trafficking network operating across Mumbai, Delhi and other parts of India. Okoye has been remanded to judicial custody, while the passports of both women have been seized.
