The United States has delivered military equipment to the Nigerian Air Force as part of an ongoing security partnership aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s capacity to combat terrorism and other security threats.

A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III transported the equipment to locations in Lagos and Kainji, Niger State, during the weekend of September 4–6, 2026.

U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced the delivery on Thursday, September 10, describing it as part of a Foreign Military Sales (FMS) agreement between the two countries.

“PARTNERSHIP IN ACTION: A U.S. Air Force C-17 delivers equipment to the Nigerian Air Force this weekend. The equipment is part of a foreign military sales agreement that furthers the U.S.-Nigerian partnership and will aid in Nigeria’s efforts to counter terrorism in the region,” AFRICOM said.

The command said the assistance was provided at Nigeria’s invitation and in accordance with the country’s sovereignty.

The specific type, quantity and financial value of the equipment were not disclosed in the initial announcement.

The delivery comes as Nigeria continues efforts to strengthen its military capabilities against terrorism, banditry and other armed threats, particularly in the northern and northeastern regions.

The latest shipment forms part of broader U.S.-Nigeria security cooperation, which includes military training, intelligence sharing and equipment support.

It also follows recent engagements between officials from both countries, including a U.S.-Nigeria Joint Working Group meeting in Washington, D.C., involving Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.

The delivery comes amid recent reports concerning adjustments to U.S. military deployments in Nigeria. Officials have stressed that such changes are mission-specific and do not signal an end to the wider security partnership between Washington and Abuja.

Nigerian officials have welcomed the latest equipment delivery, viewing it as further evidence of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

The equipment is expected to support the Nigerian Air Force’s ongoing operations against terrorist groups and other security threats across the country.
