Youths call for review of 2024 budget to accommodate their development

National Youth Leaders Forum of All Political Parties in Nigeria on Monday called for review of the N27.5 trillion budget passed into law on Saturday to accommodate youths development in Nigeria.
Chairman of the group which is an umbrella body of all Political Parties in Nigeria, Muhammad Auwal Musa, speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, said youth development was not captured as a priority in the budget that was passed by the National Assembly.
Musa argued that it would stop emigration of talented youths to other countries and lessen brain drain, if the government prioritised youths and develop them.
“He said, drawing attention to the importance of allocating a significant portion of the budget to youth development, we want to emphasize the need to prevent the emigration of talented young individuals from the country.
“There is the urgent need for investment in Nigerian youth, recognizing their pivotal role in shaping the country’s future”, he said.
This, he noted, includes quality education, skills training, and employment opportunities.
The call for allocation of 20% of the budget to youth development initiatives.
He said such an allocation would not only demonstrate the government’s unwavering commitment to empowering and nurturing the youth but also ensure their active participation in shaping the nation’s progress.
It is recalled that the budget was passed into law by legislators of the upper and lower Chambers on Saturday before they embarked on new year break.
