Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has responded to speculation about a potential defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that any decision about his political path would reflect the wishes of the state’s residents.
Speaking to journalists, Fintiri said politics is fundamentally about serving the people, and he would respect whatever choice has the backing of the majority. “There are a lot of rumours about whether I will defect to the APC or not. If that is the wish of my people, I will not oppose it because politics is all about the people,” he explained.
He criticised what he called “political merchants” who are spreading tension around the issue, accusing them of acting out of fear and personal interest. “There are people making noise, political merchants, who are treacherous and afraid. I am coming with value, prosperity, and strength to add to wherever we are going,” Fintiri said.
The governor highlighted his administration’s efforts in building strong grassroots support through development projects, infrastructure improvements, and human capital investments across Adamawa. “Adamawa is secure because we have built organic connections through development and infrastructure, particularly in human capital. If my people say I should stay, I will stay and I will win,” he added.
Fintiri reiterated that the performance of his government would ultimately define its political success, emphasising that delivering the dividends of democracy remains his top priority. “Wherever we go, the most important thing is that we have delivered, and we are going to win,” he said.
