Njenje Media News:
ENUGU — Njenje Media News has obtained official aviation documentation confirming that the aerodrome serving Akanu Ibiam International Airport has been certified by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, marking a major regulatory milestone for the South-East aviation gateway.
The document, published as AIP Supplement S15/2026 and dated April 15, 2026, indicates that the certification took effect on April 10, 2026, and will remain valid for a three-year period. It identifies the facility with the location indicator DNEN and confirms that the aerodrome was approved by the NCAA.
In aviation terms, certification is granted to the aerodrome, the broader operational facility that encompasses runways, taxiways, terminals and associated infrastructure, rather than to the airport designation itself. The approval signifies that the aerodrome meets established international standards for safety, security and operational efficiency required for handling international flight operations.
Public reporting on the development indicates that the certificate was issued to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria after the facility satisfied all prescribed regulatory and operational benchmarks.
The official notice also states that Nigeria’s Aeronautical Information Publication will be updated, specifically GEN 1.7 and AD 1.5, to reflect the new certification status.
Aviation stakeholders say the development is expected to strengthen operational confidence, enhance compliance with global aviation standards and reinforce Enugu’s position as a key international gateway in Nigeria’s South-East region.
