Akanu Ibiam International Airport Gets Aerodrome Certification

Njenje Media has obtained an official aviation document confirming that Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, has been certified as an aerodrome by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.

The certification, according to the document, took effect on April 10, 2026, and will remain valid for three years. The notice identifies the airport with the location indicator DNEN and lists its status as certified by the NCAA.

The development was contained in AIP Supplement S15/2026 dated April 15, 2026, issued by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency through its Aeronautical Information Services Headquarters.

The document obtained by Njenje Media also states that the Nigerian Aeronautical Information Publication, specifically Gen 1.7 and AD 1.5, will be amended to reflect the airport’s new certification status.

The certification marks an important regulatory milestone for Akanu Ibiam International Airport and is expected to strengthen confidence in its operational and safety compliance within Nigeria’s aviation sector.
