Veteran Nollywood actor Ganiu “Alapini Osa” Nafiu has reversed his earlier public regret over campaigning for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 elections, reaffirming his support and suggesting that the President should be allowed a third term to address Nigeria’s long-standing challenges.
Alapini Osa, known for his roles in films such as Apesin, Eegun, Aiye, and Koto Aye, explained in a recent interview with colleague Kunle Afod that his initial disappointment stemmed from high expectations that quickly turned into disillusionment. Speaking in Yoruba, he said Nigerians must recognise Tinubu’s efforts, describing the President as compassionate and committed, navigating the complexities of Aso Rock while facing resistance from entrenched interests he likened to “tigers and cobras in the forest.”
The actor emphasised that the country’s hardships are not solely attributable to Tinubu, noting that insecurity, killings, and kidnappings predate his administration. He commended Tinubu’s refusal to negotiate with kidnappers and highlighted improvements in the electricity sector and governance across multiple areas.
Alapini Osa further praised the involvement of Tinubu’s family, including his son Seyi and the First Lady, for supporting national development. While acknowledging the limits of an eight-year term in fixing decades of systemic challenges, he encouraged Nigerians to provide constructive feedback rather than resort to criticism.
The actor concluded that, given the progress made so far, Nigerians should consider allowing Tinubu a third term to consolidate reforms, stating that the nation’s long-standing issues cannot be resolved within a single term.
