The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to use a consensus approach in selecting its national leaders at its convention set for March 27–28, 2026, in Abuja.

This was revealed by Mrs Mary Ikoku, Assistant Secretary for Media and Publicity of the APC National Convention 2026, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday.

According to her, the party has settled on consensus for the convention process, though she noted uncertainty about whether the same method will apply to all elective positions, emphasizing that political dynamics often differ across levels.

She added that candidates who eventually emerge may not always fit into a consensus arrangement in every instance.

Ikoku also addressed aspects of the new Electoral Act, which requires political parties to register members digitally within a set period and defines how candidates should be chosen.

While she admitted these rules present difficulties for parties, she suggested that complaints from opposition groups reflect a lack of adequate preparation.
