The bickering in the South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new turn as a member of the Caretaker Committee in the South West, Mrs Funmilayo Ogun has called the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde a accidental governor and a mistake her party, the PDP will no longer make.

Mrs Ogun said it was sad that the PDP gave it’s ticket to a petty and immature person like Makinde and posited that there are better and more committed people in Oyo PDP than the governor, who himself is a product of a coalition but has betrayed the trust of those who worked for him.

Njenje Media News reports that the caretaker committee member recalled that the governor was a member of the now defunct All Nigerians Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2007 and 2012, joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2015 and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2018 to realize his ambition.

She further added that those who supported and elected Makinde as Oyo Governor did not do so to make him the Premier of the South-West and said that the caretaker committee will hence not have anything to do with him since he has decided to disrespect the political party and acted like being a governor gives him a bigger stake over the party.

According to the PDP chieftain, it was bizarre that a governor like Makinde, elected under the PDP platform would be seen to openly go against the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC), the PDP highest decision-making organ.

She further argued that by choosing to fraternize with persons not recognized as State Chairmen of PDP in Ekiti, Osun and Ogun States, the Oyo State Governor is implying that he’s more powerful that PDP’s NEC and has acted like the decisions of the NEC are meaningless to him.

She gave an instance where Governor Makinde had referred to the State Working Committee of the party in Ekiti State as ‘factional’ despite the fact that he was part of the congresses that approved them, something she sees as a matter of concern.

In her words;

“I hate to say this, but Governor Makinde has not acted true to his office as a governor under the platform of the PDP. He is petty and immature. His commitment to the PDP is suspicious and as someone whose love for the party has remained unwavering, I doubt if he is not working for those APC governors, who gave him money for his election.

“It is my opinion that next time, our party should be mindful of promoting people like Governor Makinde, who was never stable in the party for once.

“If he had failed in his bid to get the party ticket in 2018, I am sure he (Makinde) would have moved to another party just as he did in 2015, despite the plea that he should take Senate ticket.”
