The Action Peoples Party has dragged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, to court over alleged irregularities in documents submitted ahead of the upcoming election.

The suit, filed at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, also listed the Independent National Electoral Commission and the APC as co-defendants.

Through its representative, Abdulateef R., the APP asked the court to determine whether the documents submitted by Oyebamiji comply with constitutional provisions required to contest the governorship election.

In the originating summons dated March 16, the party specifically urged the court to interpret whether the nomination meets the requirements of Section 182(1)(j) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

Among its prayers, the APP is seeking the nullification of Oyebamiji’s inclusion as the APC candidate for the August 15, 2026 governorship election. It also requested a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from recognising or dealing with him as a candidate.

Additionally, the party asked the court to compel INEC to remove Oyebamiji’s name from the official list of candidates already released for the poll.

Reacting, the APC in Osun dismissed the lawsuit, describing it as baseless and politically motivated.

The party’s spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, said the suit was not unexpected, insisting that their candidate remains fully qualified.

He maintained that all legal requirements had been met and alleged that the case was a distraction by political opponents unsettled by the strength of the APC’s campaign.

Olabisi added that no legal challenge would hinder the party’s participation in the forthcoming election.
