Benue: Coalition fumes as court postpones judgement on case seeking to nullify APC primary

The Benue Coalition for Democracy has condemned the move by the Federal High Court in Abuja to postpone judgement on a lawsuit instituted by former Minister of Justice, Chief Mike Kaase Aondoakaa seeking to nullify the All Progressives Congress, APC gubernatorial primary election that produced Fr Hyacinth Alia as standard bearer.

The court had earlier in the week announced that its judgement on the case would be declared at a later date.

Reacting, the coalition, in a statement issued by its Coordinator, Aloysius Gbakaan, accused some bigwigs in the APC of attempting to manipulate the court’s judgement.

According to them, some prominent members of APC have been making concerted efforts to manipulate the ruling of the court “which we suspect may be the reason for the curious postponement.

“We view the postponement of the judgment as an attempt by the APC to buy more time to mount more pressure on the judiciary to circumvent justice in their favour.

“This move must be resisted by all lovers of democracy and justice to protect the integrity of the judiciary and the country’s electoral system.

“We wonder why a court would schedule a date to deliver a judgment and then later come up with a claim that the judgment is not ready. The court could not even communicate a new date. That is impunity taken too far.

“We caution APC leaders in Benue State and those aiding them from the presidency to desist from putting pressure on the judiciary over the lawsuit in question and allow justice to prevail.”
