Legal Battle Erupts Over Representation in Obasa’s Removal Lawsuit – THISDAYLIVE

In a significant political shift within the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa has been reinstated as Speaker following the resignation of Mojisola Meranda. In a swift turn of events, Meranda has also been re-elected as Deputy Speaker.

Meranda had initially made history as the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly after Obasa’s impeachment in January 2025. However, during a meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Marina, she announced her resignation from the position. Reports indicate that her decision was influenced by party directives aimed at restoring stability within the Assembly.

Obasa, who had contested his impeachment, argued that due process was not followed in his removal. His return marks a resolution of the political turbulence that had engulfed the Assembly in recent months.

Following Meranda’s resignation, the House swiftly conducted elections, leading to Obasa’s reinstatement as Speaker and Meranda’s re-election as Deputy Speaker. This realignment is expected to bring stability and refocus legislative activities in the state.

Observers view these changes as a strategic move within the ruling APC to maintain cohesion in the Lagos Assembly and ensure effective governance. As the Assembly moves forward under this renewed leadership, stakeholders and citizens alike are hopeful for continued progress in the state’s legislative affairs.
