Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday stormed the Abuja residence of former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, creating a tense atmosphere as they sealed off the area and restricted movement.
According to eyewitness accounts, the operatives arrived in a convoy of about five buses and swiftly took over Koranakh Close, off Amazon Street, preventing both residents and visitors from gaining access. The sudden operation caused disruption within the neighbourhood, with movement tightly controlled as security personnel maintained a strong presence.
Sources within the area said the EFCC officials positioned themselves strategically around the residence, effectively laying siege to the property, although the exact reason for the operation was not immediately disclosed. Some residents expressed concern over the scale of the deployment, noting that the street was cordoned off for several hours.
While the anti-corruption agency has yet to release an official statement on the development, the move has already drawn significant attention, given Malami’s high profile role in previous administrations and his involvement in several key government decisions during his tenure.
Observers say the situation may be connected to ongoing investigations into alleged financial dealings involving former public officials, though this remains unconfirmed.
