A presidency bid linked to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has been hinted at by his close associate and African Democratic Congress (ADC) member, Hayatudeen Lawal Makarfi, who says preparations are underway ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday after court proceedings involving El-Rufai, Makarfi expressed confidence in the former governor’s political future.
He was quoted as saying, “His Excellency President Bola Ahmed will hand over to His Excellency Mallam Nasir El-Rufai in May 2027, and the journey has started.”
El-Rufai is currently facing trial by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged corruption during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.
