Former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode has refuted reports alleging that the German government rejected his ambassadorial nomination.
An online platform, Peoples Gazette, had earlier claimed that his proposed posting was declined due to alleged ethnic and religious remarks. The report further stated that German authorities turned down the appointment on March 13, 2026, citing concerns over his past statements and conduct, which they reportedly described as controversial and potentially destabilising.
It also suggested that the former minister could be reassigned to South Africa instead.
The development followed the approval of Fani-Kayode as an ambassador-designate to a Central European country by Bola Tinubu.
Reacting on Monday via his official handle, Fani-Kayode dismissed the claims as false, accusing opposition figures of orchestrating the report to tarnish his image. He insisted that critics were unsettled by his nomination and determined to undermine it.
Despite the controversy, he maintained his commitment to serve, declaring that no amount of opposition would stop him from fulfilling the role.
