Suspected armed kidnappers on Monday attacked an eastbound GUO Transport bus along the Ore–Benin Expressway, killing the driver and abducting several passengers in a violent highway ambush.

Eyewitness accounts and preliminary reports indicate that the assailants opened fire on the moving vehicle, forcing it to a halt after the driver was fatally shot. Once the bus stopped, the attackers reportedly took control of the situation and marched passengers into a nearby forest.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of people abducted. Security operatives are said to have launched search and rescue operations in surrounding forested areas.

The incident has renewed concerns over rising insecurity on major highways, particularly the Ore–Benin corridor, which has witnessed repeated cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in recent months. Transport operators and commuters have continued to call for a stronger and more consistent security presence along the route.

Police officials are expected to provide further updates as investigations and rescue efforts continue.
