The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the schedule for the 2027 general elections. The Presidential and National Assembly elections are set for February 20, 2027, while the Governorship and State Assembly elections will take place on March 6, 2027.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, revealed the timetable during a news conference on Friday in Abuja. The commission had previously indicated on February 4 that, despite delays in passing the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly, it had finalised the election timetable and planned activities.
While INEC has submitted its proposals to the National Assembly, it acknowledged that certain items in the schedule could be affected depending on when the lawmakers pass the revised Electoral Act.
Under the leadership of former chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, INEC had previously set general election dates for the next four decades to reduce voter uncertainty and streamline logistics for the commission and other stakeholders.
