A father of 11 children, Lawal Hamisu, has approached Sharia Court II in Magajin Gari, Kaduna State, seeking an order compelling his daughter, Fatima Lawal, to accept marriage after she allegedly declined several marriage proposals.

Hamisu told the court that Fatima was old enough for marriage but had repeatedly rejected suitors despite the family’s attempts to find her a husband. He asked the court to intervene and encourage her to choose a suitable partner.

The father said his daughter’s continued refusal to marry had become a major concern for the family, leading him to seek the court’s intervention.

However, Fatima opposed her father’s request, arguing that she should not be forced into marriage against her will. She maintained that she would only marry a person of her choice when she was ready.

Following arguments from both sides, the judge adjourned the case to allow for further proceedings and possible reconciliation between the father and daughter.

The matter has sparked discussions among Nigerians, with many debating issues surrounding parental influence, cultural and religious expectations, and an individual’s freedom to choose a spouse.
