Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Adeleke made his position known on Sunday, August 16, 2026, during a press conference shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him winner of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
The governor, who secured a second term on the platform of the Accord Party after previously leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), expressed appreciation to Tinubu for what he described as his support for a free and fair election.
“At this point, I must deeply appreciate Mr. President, His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his strong support for a free and fair election. Mr. President is a son of Osun State, and I hereby reaffirm my earlier endorsement of him for a second term in the 2027 presidential election,” Adeleke said.
Adeleke also disclosed that Tinubu had called to congratulate him on his victory in the governorship election.
In a separate statement, Tinubu described Adeleke’s re-election as “a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish” and urged the governor to unite the people of Osun State irrespective of their political affiliations.
Adeleke has consistently backed Tinubu’s 2027 presidential ambition, describing the decision as one based on considerations beyond party politics.
The governor has previously referred to Tinubu as “our own son, father and leader”, while highlighting the President’s ancestral ties to Osun State.
He has also cited federal infrastructure projects in the state, including the Ilesa-Ile-Ife-Ibadan expressway, as part of the reasons for his support for the President.
Earlier in 2026, Adeleke maintained that political disagreements at the state level, particularly the prolonged dispute over control of Osun local government areas involving members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), would not affect his support for Tinubu at the federal level.
His latest endorsement comes as political alignments continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 presidential election, particularly across the South-West.
