The deadlines for the registration of all Subscriber Identification Modules with valid National Identity Numbers were still in force, the Federal Government has insisted.

It also added that the NIN was mandatory for diplomats who reside in Nigeria, as well as for all other lawful residents across the country.

Njenje Media News reports that The Director, Public Affairs, NCC, Ikechukwu Adinde, while answering questions from newsmen, said nothing had changed.

In his words;

“The deadlines are still in force; there is no update for now and just like I told you last week, if there is any change it will be communicated,” he said.

Njenje Media recalls that the Federal Government had on December 15, 2020 declared that all SIMs that were not registered with valid NINs on the network of telecommunications companies would be blocked after December 30, 2020.

But due to the outcry it generated from Nigerians about the feasibility of the date, it was later extended to January 19, 2021.
