A 2025 road quality assessment has ranked Ogun State as having the poorest road quality in Nigeria, with the South-West accounting for the highest number of states among those with the lowest-rated road networks.
The report, released by StatiSense and based on the 2025 pSPI Report, was compiled from residents’ assessments of road conditions across Nigeria’s 36 states.
According to the ranking, Ogun State placed 37th, making it the lowest-ranked state in the country. Kogi State followed in 36th position, while Imo State ranked 35th.
Other states among the 12 lowest-ranked states were Taraba (34th), Ondo (33rd), Edo (32nd), Anambra (31st), Delta (30th), Bayelsa (29th), Kwara (28th), Kaduna (27th), and Ekiti (26th).
A breakdown of the figures by region showed that the South-West had the highest representation among the lowest-ranked states, with Ogun, Ondo, and Ekiti making the list. The South-East had two states, Imo and Anambra, while the South-South recorded Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa. The North Central had Kogi and Kwara, the North-East had Taraba, and the North-West had Kaduna.
The report noted that the rankings reflect public perception of road conditions and are not a technical engineering evaluation of the state of road infrastructure.
It added that the findings highlight the need for greater investment in road construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance to improve transportation networks, economic activities, and connectivity across Nigeria.
