OHANAEZE NDIGBO WORLDWIDE MOURNS THE PASSING OF CHIEF SIR DAN OKENYI
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has announced, with profound sorrow, the passing of its Deputy Secretary-General, Chief Sir Dan Okenyi (Olikeze), who was laid to rest on Friday, 21 November 2025, in his hometown of Ukwu-Nzu, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State. He died at the age of 68, Njenje Media News reports
The solemn funeral service, held at Bethel Anglican Church, Ogbe Okwe Quarters, Ukwu-Nzu, was officiated by the Anglican Bishop of Asaba Diocese, Rt. Rev. Kingsley C. Obuh. In his sermon, Bishop Obuh praised Sir Okenyi as a steadfast Knight of the Church, highlighting his unwavering devotion, humility and strong contributions to the growth and mission of the Diocese.
Leading the Ohanaeze delegation was the Secretary-General, His Excellency Emeka Sibeudu, who represented the President-General, Senator John Azuta Mbata, and delivered his condolence message. Senator Mbata described the late Chief Okenyi as “a patriot, a seasoned technocrat and a refined gentleman whose record of service to Delta State, the Nigerian public sector and Ndi Igbo remains exemplary and inspiring.” He prayed for God’s comfort upon his widow, children and the entire Okenyi family, and for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) who joined the delegation included Mazi Omife Omife (Vice President-General, Anambra), Dr. Peter Mbam (VPG), Chief John Duru (VPG), Dr. Ezechi Chukwu (National Publicity Secretary) and Barr. Chizoba Iheka (Assistant National Legal Adviser). The delegation was warmly received by the Ohanaeze Delta State President, Mr. Ben Igumbor, alongside his EXCO. Several distinguished stakeholders and leaders of Ohanaeze in Delta State were in attendance, including Chief Ejiofor Onyia, Prince Frank Nwandu and Mrs. Lizzy Chiazor, among others.
Until his transition, Chief Sir Dan Okenyi served in several prominent capacities such as Sole Administrator of Aniocha North LGA, Clerk of the Delta State House of Assembly, Commissioner for Lands & Survey, and Commissioner for Culture & Tourism. He was widely respected for his integrity, dedication to duty and his unwavering commitment to the progress of Ndi Igbo.
