A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has been accused of attempting to obtain an iPhone XR from a phone shop in Lagos using a fake bank transfer alert.
The man, who was wearing the NYSC uniform when he entered the shop, was reportedly confronted by the shop owner after the alleged payment could not be verified. The owner subsequently took possession of his phone and allegedly discovered a history of failed recurring transfers and similar transactions dating back several months.
Some of the transactions reportedly ranged from ₦1,500 to ₦100,000, suggesting that the alleged scheme may have involved multiple attempts rather than being an isolated incident.

The shop owner filmed the confrontation and the footage was subsequently circulated, drawing attention to the alleged scam. The circumstances and the authenticity of the transactions would need to be established by law-enforcement authorities.
