President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an increase in salaries and allowances for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces as part of efforts to improve personnel welfare and strengthen national security operations.

The decision was disclosed during an interfaith breaking of fast with military personnel held at the Presidential Villa on Friday.

Speaking at the event, the Defence Headquarters Nigeria, represented by the Chief of Army Staff, expressed appreciation to the president for the new approvals, which include salary adjustments, improved allowances, procurement of modern equipment, and better accommodation for service members.

According to the defence leadership, the approvals are expected to boost the morale of troops deployed across different theatres of operation in the country.

“These approvals also extend to equipment procurement and the provision of decent accommodation for members of the armed forces,” the representative said, adding that the measures would help strengthen military efficiency.

He noted that the improved welfare package would enhance operational effectiveness as troops continue operations against terrorism, banditry, and other security threats across Nigeria.

“These approvals will go a long way in improving our operational efficiency, and they have been well received by members of the armed forces,” he added.

Addressing the soldiers, Tinubu commended their sacrifice and dedication to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty. He acknowledged that many service members spend long periods away from their families while confronting armed groups and other security challenges.

“My duty is to thank all of you on behalf of a grateful nation,” the president said. “Many times you are away from your families while confronting bandits and terrorists. I commend your courage and professionalism in defending the country.”

Tinubu assured the armed forces that his administration would continue investing in modern equipment, intelligence capabilities, and operational logistics to strengthen the military.

He said the government remained committed to supporting the armed forces so they can effectively protect the country and its citizens.

The president added that sustained military operations have helped weaken terrorist and bandit groups in several parts of the country.

Tinubu also thanked Nigerians for their patience amid ongoing economic reforms, saying the sacrifices being made by citizens and security personnel are necessary for national progress.

“I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and those of fellow citizens are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel,” he said.

During the gathering, the president also sympathised with the government and people of Borno State over a recent terrorist attack in the state.
