The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Chibuzor Simeon Amadi, declined a request from the Rivers State House of Assembly to set up a seven-member panel to investigate Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy over alleged misconduct.
Justice Amadi said he is bound by existing court orders that prohibit him from constituting such a panel. The legislature had sought to pursue inquiries into governance concerns, but the judiciary’s refusal underscores tensions between branches of government as legal battles continue over constitutional processes and due process.
The judge reiterated that the rule of law must prevail and that orders from superior courts cannot be ignored.
Political watchers view this as a temporary reprieve for the governor, but the underlying disputes within Rivers politics persist, reflecting wider questions about accountability, separation of powers and political factionalism.
Njenje Media News recalls that the political crisis in Rivers State began due to the political disagreement between Governors Sim Fubara and his estranged godfather, Nyesom Wike. This culminated in a 6-month declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
