In the wake of different agitations from Indigenous groups in Nigeria to break away from the Nigerian contraption, the senior pastor of the Embassy of the Blessed Kingdom of God for All Nations, Pastor Sunday Adelaja has thrown a swipe at their overall intentions.
The cleric in an interview with Maazi Ezeoke of Njenje Media News believes the agitators do not understand the implications of their actions and are hence acting ignorantly.
In his words:

“I think they are being misled, the Biafran people, the Yoruba nation, they are absolutely being misled. I think they just don’t understand it. I think the Yoruba nation, Biafra agitation is a result of the frustration, the endemic problems that Nigeria is plunged into. I think let’s even imagine this if Nigeria has been doing well, let’s say we have been living as well as people living in Europe, nobody will think of Yoruba nation, nobody will think of Biafra, everybody will be enjoying their lives. It’s because of our failure as a government and as a people, because of the problem; it’s as a result of frustration.”

Pastor Adelaja believes if Nigerians could in the past come together as one, there is nothing stopping them from collectively looking for solutions to the myriad of problems the country is facing.

“At the beginning of this program, you said it that in the 60’s we had regions, that everybody, you pained the picture of perfection, that everybody was doing well and we didn’t have these problems that we are having right? Now what I am saying is that there was a time that Nigerians could live together and everybody was okay, satisfied, developing their own region right and everybody even thought of breaking or something like that but today everybody is saying break, it’s because of the failure, of the poverty and everything.”

“So if we could live together at that time, I think nothing has changed, we can still live together. The only problem is that our leaders have failed us, our government has failed us, not only on the federal level, even on the state and local level and it’s as a result of that failure people are just expressing their frustration. So I personally believe that Nigeria is better together and Nigeria will be stronger together and we would become our destiny, we would be able to fulfill our destiny together.”

He further added that frustration is the driving force behind the various agitations.

“ I think it’s frustration, I don’t think it’s because they don’t want to leave, I don’t think it’s because Igbos don’t want to live with Yorubas, I don’t think the Yorubas don’t want to live with the Igbos or live with the Hausas, I think they want to live together. I think what is driving it is the frustration, it’s the frustration of not being fulfilled and they now magnify the issues and say okay, it is because we have a Fulani dominating Nigeria or we have a Fulani President or a Hausa President. I think it’s just the frustration of not being fulfilled.”

The cleric believes the President Buhari-led government has performed better than the previous administration despite the enormous challenges.
“I think for me personally, this government is doing much better than the government we had, the last one. I see the infrastructure that is being built. Can you imagine if Obasanjo or Jonathan had built the same railway set that we are now seeing, has taken care of the Airports like we are seeing now, have taken care of just infrastructural development of the country, let’s say all those things have been taken care of, today these people wouldn’t have needed to do that now, they would have been using the money to maybe empower people.”, he added.
