Seriake Dickson has expressed deep concern over the ongoing turmoil in the Peoples Democratic Party, saying former president Goodluck Jonathan would be saddened to see the party, once dominant since 1999, deteriorate to the point of collapse.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the former Bayelsa governor, who recently defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, said Jonathan must feel the weight of the party’s decline given his long political journey on its platform.
Dickson, who governed Bayelsa from 2012 to 2020 under the PDP, officially joined the NDC on March 5, describing it as a strong alternative for Nigerians seeking a viable opposition.
At his defection event in Abuja, he said the emergence of the NDC offers fresh hope, even though delays in its registration were beyond the control of its promoters.
The senator also addressed claims that key figures are abandoning the PDP, insisting instead that the party has effectively lost its structure and identity, leaving loyal members behind.
The PDP has faced persistent internal divisions over the past year, including leadership disputes and defections, with several governors moving to the All Progressives Congress, further weakening its ranks.
