Suspected bandits have allegedly killed the Village Head of Galla in Borgu Emirate, Niger State, after attacking his palace.
The incident reportedly took place on Monday, August 24, 2026.
Sources said the traditional ruler was attacked and killed after allegedly cautioning the bandits against entering his community.
According to the sources, the bandits reportedly interpreted the warning as an insult and subsequently attacked the traditional ruler at his palace.
The deceased was reportedly the brother of the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi.
The spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, was contacted and said he would provide further details.
However, at the time of filing this report, the police spokesperson had not issued an official statement concerning the incident.
The reported killing has raised fresh concerns about insecurity in parts of Borgu Emirate, where banditry and other security threats have reportedly increased in recent times.
