The Federal High Court in Abuja has approved a request allowing the masking of prosecution witnesses in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu.
The federal government filed an exparte application seeking permission to have its witnesses testify without revealing their identities for security reasons. Additionally, the court was asked to allow witnesses to testify behind screens.
The defendant’s counsel did not raise any objections to the request. Justice Omotosho granted the application as requested.
The federal government presented its first witness in the case against Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra. The witness, identified as Oga AAA (a pseudonym), testified behind a screen and wore a mask.
During proceedings on Tuesday before Justice James Omotosho, Oga AAA stated that he led the DSS team that arrested Kanu at the Golden Tulip Hotel near Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos on October 14, 2015.
Kanu is facing seven terrorism-related charges and is accused of being a member of a terrorist group.
