Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that nearly 70 per cent of the projects completed by the FCT Administration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu were contracts awarded between 15 and 16 years ago but left unfinished.

He explained that the projects were revived and completed in line with President Tinubu’s directive that viable government projects should not be abandoned.

Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Wike said the administration prioritised completing inherited projects before initiating new ones.

According to the minister, leaving the projects uncompleted would have deprived residents of essential infrastructure while resulting in the waste of public funds already invested.

> “The President said we can’t abandon old projects. While we cannot abandon old projects, we must also carry out new ones.

> “I can tell you that about 60 per cent of the projects we have executed in the last three years were projects awarded 15 to 16 years ago but abandoned.

> “If we had allowed that, people would still be asking questions about those abandoned projects. So, we first made sure they were completed, and we have achieved that with not less than 70 per cent of them,” Wike said.

The minister added that alongside completing inherited projects, the FCT Administration had also embarked on new road and infrastructure developments across Abuja and the satellite towns.

He credited the accelerated pace of development in the Federal Capital Territory to President Tinubu’s backing, especially the decision to exempt the FCT Administration from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), which he said ensured easier access to funds for infrastructure projects.

Wike reaffirmed that the administration would sustain efforts to deliver projects that improve transportation, expand development into new districts and enhance the living standards of residents across the Federal Capital Territory.
