The Rivers State House of Assembly has given Heirs Energies Limited a final ultimatum to appear before lawmakers on July 20, warning that failure to comply could result in legal action against the company’s managing director.
The directive came after the firm’s repeated absence in response to a petition filed by the Omuohoa community in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Local Government Area.
The community had petitioned the Assembly over the alleged dismissal of Omuohoa workers engaged by Heirs Energies, urging lawmakers to ensure the affected employees were reinstated.
The Assembly noted that the company had ignored several invitations issued by the House Committee on Public Petitions to address the matter.
Speaking during plenary, Speaker Martin Amaewhule condemned the company’s continued refusal to appear before the committee, stressing that the House would invoke its constitutional powers if the summons was disregarded again.
He warned that the Assembly could issue a warrant for the arrest of the company’s managing director should Heirs Energies fail to honour the July 20 invitation.
In a separate resolution, the Assembly instructed Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited to immediately begin cleanup and environmental restoration after an oil spill impacted land along the Ogoni-Bonny Pipeline in B-Dere community, Gokana Local Government Area.
Lawmakers also demanded the prompt payment of over ₦205 million in approved compensation to individuals and families affected by the incident.
The House further directed Zest Optimal Global Services to settle all outstanding entitlements owed to 16 former employees.
The Assembly subsequently adjourned plenary until July 10.
