In a tragic incident on May 30, 2024, troops of Operation UDO KA stationed at Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area, near Aba metropolis in Abia State, were attacked by terrorists from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN). The troops, deployed to maintain peace and protect citizens, were ambushed by terrorists in three tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and others from surrounding built-up areas.

In response to this heinous act, the military in a statement made available to the press vowed to retaliate fiercely. Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that overwhelming military pressure would be applied to ensure the complete defeat of the terrorist group.

The surprise attack resulted in the deaths of five armed forces personnel. The military deeply mourns the loss of these soldiers, recognizing each death as a significant and grievous loss. Investigations into the attack are currently underway.

The military emphasized the critical role of public support in combating terrorism. The IPOB terrorists exploited the local populace to carry out their attack, highlighting the necessity for community cooperation in security efforts.

The military in their statement noted that they remain committed to restoring peace and security in the region and will take decisive action against those responsible for the attack.
