President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the postings of 65 ambassadors, comprising 31 career and 34 non-career envoys, to various countries and the United Nations. The appointments, confirmed by the Senate in December 2025, include high-profile figures such as Senator Grace Bent to Togo, Reno Omokri to Mexico City, and Aminu Dalhatu to the United Kingdom, signalling a major diplomatic reshuffle. Analysts say the move underscores Nigeria’s renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations, enhancing trade, security cooperation, and international visibility.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received agréments for key postings, including the United Kingdom and France, while the remaining envoys await approval from host nations. President Tinubu has directed the immediate commencement of induction programmes for all ambassadors-designate and High Commissioners to prepare them for their diplomatic responsibilities. The programme will cover protocol, international law, negotiation strategies, and national interest advocacy, equipping the envoys for effective representation abroad.
Among the non-career appointees, Senator Grace Bent will serve in Lome, Togo; Sen. Ita Enang in South Africa; Reno Omokri in Mexico City, Mexico; and Aminu Dalhatu in the United Kingdom. Career ambassadors include Amb. Nwabiola Ezenwa Chukwumeka to Cote d’Ivoire; Amb. Mohammed Mahmud Lele to Algeria; Amb. Jane Adams Michael to Jamaica; and Amb. Ayeni Adebayo Emmanuel to Belgium. These postings span Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, reflecting Nigeria’s global diplomatic engagement.
The full list of 65 designated envoys highlights the administration’s strategic deployment of experienced diplomats and notable personalities to key international missions, aiming to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy footprint and advance national interests across multiple regions.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, announced the approvals on March 6, 2026.
