The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The commission announced this in a wanted notice issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, and signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

The EFCC identified Maina as a 61-year-old indigene of Biu, Borno State, and appealed to members of the public with information about his whereabouts to contact the commission or other security agencies.

In the notice, the anti-graft agency stated that Maina was wanted “in connection with an alleged case of receiving stolen property.”

The EFCC did not disclose the nature or value of the property allegedly received, nor did it provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the allegation.

The commission urged anyone with information about Maina’s whereabouts to contact its offices, the nearest police station or other security agencies.

The latest development comes against the backdrop of Maina’s previous legal battles with the EFCC.

He was earlier prosecuted by the commission over money-laundering offences linked to allegations involving pension-related funds.

In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Maina and sentenced him to eight years in prison. The court also ordered him to refund N314 million to the Federal Government.

The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in 2023, while Maina was released from Kuje Correctional Centre in February 2025 after serving part of his sentence under applicable correctional rules.

Maina has also been involved in a separate financial-crime case before the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Asokoro, Abuja.

The case concerns allegations involving funds allegedly received by Maina and another defendant. Proceedings have continued amid delays and issues surrounding Maina’s appearances in court.

The latest wanted declaration relates to a separate allegation of receiving stolen property, which has not been determined by any court.

The EFCC has therefore called on Nigerians with information that could assist its investigation to provide details about Maina’s whereabouts.
