The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has turned down a request from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) seeking access to Nasir El-Rufai while he remains in its custody.

In a letter dated May 21, 2026, and addressed to the party’s National Secretary in Abuja, the Commission stated that the request was not approved.

ICPC noted that El-Rufai is currently facing trial before the Kaduna State High Court and the Federal High Court, both sitting in Kaduna State.

It explained that although he is in custody pursuant to court orders, the case is actively before the judiciary.

The Commission further clarified that access to the defendant has been strictly limited by the court.

It stated, “The court has granted access to the defendant to his family, doctors and counsels. These are the only category of persons granted access to see the defendant in the Commission’s custody.”

Based on this restriction, the ICPC said it could not approve the ADC’s request to visit him.
