Jorge Messi, the father and longtime adviser of Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi, has died at the age of 68, according to multiple reports from Argentina and Spain.
Jorge reportedly died on Friday evening at a medical facility in Rosario, Argentina, his hometown, after battling a prolonged illness. Reports said he had been receiving medical treatment for some time.
Jorge played a significant role in Messi’s career, serving as his agent and adviser from the early stages of the footballer’s professional journey.
His death comes less than two months after the Messi family confirmed that Jorge was receiving medical treatment following false reports of his death in June. At the time, the family said he was recovering and making favourable progress.
The family has not publicly disclosed an official cause of death.
