PUBLIC STATEMENT
TO THE GOOD PEOPLE OF NNEWI NORTH, NNEWI SOUTH AND EKWUSIGO FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY, MY SUPPORTERS, FRIENDS AND MEMBERS OF THE NIGERIA DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS (NDC)
My dear brothers and sisters,
I have received with keen interest the reports of today’s decision of the Federal High Court in Lokoja concerning the registration of our great party, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Judicial pronouncements remain a vital pillar of our constitutional democracy, and as law-abiding citizens, we must always respect the authority of the courts while allowing the legal process to run its full course.
I therefore urge every member of our party, particularly my supporters across Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, to remain calm, peaceful and resolute. There is absolutely no need for panic or despair.
From my understanding of the issues involved, I remain confident that the legal team representing the NDC will take all appropriate legal steps. I have every confidence that the decision of the Lokoja Division will either be set aside within a short time through the appropriate legal process or overturned on appeal.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has, within only a few months of its existence, demonstrated that Nigerians are yearning for a credible alternative political platform. That aspiration cannot be extinguished by a temporary legal setback. Our leaders and legal representatives are undoubtedly working tirelessly to ensure that the Nigerian people are not denied the alternative voice that the NDC has come to represent.
To every supporter who has stood firmly with me throughout this journey, I urge you to remain steadfast. The mandate you freely gave me during the NDC primaries of 29th May 2026 will not be in vain. I remain very confident that I will contest the election as the NDC candidate and that our great party will ultimately appear on the ballot. This is, in my considered view, only a little and insignificant setback in what is a much bigger democratic journey.
History has repeatedly shown that temporary setbacks often precede greater victories. Let us therefore remain united, disciplined and hopeful as we await the next phase of the legal proceedings.
May God continue to bless our Federal Constituency, our great party and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Barr. Obunike Ohaegbu (Nwa Miss)
