The Lagos State Police Command has rescued three young girls from a suspected human trafficking operation in Badagry, Lagos State.
The victims were reportedly being transported on a commercial motorcycle when police officers intercepted the rider during a routine patrol.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the police spokesperson, officers stopped the motorcycle along Owode Apa Road in Badagry, where they discovered three young girls being conveyed on the vehicle.
Preliminary interrogation reportedly revealed that the girls were victims of human trafficking, prompting the officers to rescue them and conduct an initial debriefing.
The police disclosed that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend those behind the suspected trafficking operation.
The case has subsequently been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.
However, the identities and ages of the rescued girls have not been disclosed. The police have also not provided details about their intended destination, the individuals who allegedly arranged their movement or whether any suspects have been arrested.
The incident has renewed concerns about human trafficking and the exploitation of vulnerable children, particularly the need for stronger surveillance and enforcement measures to prevent such activities.
Further investigations are expected to establish how the girls were recruited, identify those responsible for transporting them and determine whether other individuals were involved in the suspected trafficking network.
